FIRE BRIGADES' DEMONSTRATION.
SYDNEY, January 3. j A portion of yesterday's Fire Brigades' demonstration had to be abandoned owing to tho pressure of the crowds. The peop.e clustered round so thickly and persisted in obstructing the movements of the firfmen so much that they wero compelled to requisition the hose. There was an abundant supply of water. With loud shouts of laughter from the' men and shrieks of * consternation from the women, the crowd scattered before the wateiy onslaught like mists before the rising sun, but no sooner did they mako an opening in one place than 'they ' worked round and hampered tho firemen at another. Tho people were practically unmanageable, as the small body of police present were unable to do anything.
