THE SIXTH CONTINGENT.
WELLINGTON, January 2.
With regard to the despatch of the sixth contingent, the Hon. J. G. Ward states that it is intended to gather all the southern men and those from the south part of the North Island in Wellington for despatch to the front. The troopship will then ga to Auckland to pick up the northern portion of the contingent. WELLINGTON, January 3. A steamer of 6000 tons, belonging to an English firm, which was used by one of the Australian colonies as a troopship, has been chartered to carry the sixth con. tingent. The name, however, has not yet been disclosed. It is expected to leave Wellington on Sunday, the 20th, and Auckland on the 26th. The Government: has decided that the sixth contingent shall conhisb of 500 men, mada up as follows: Olago, Canterbury, Wellington and Auckland 105 each; Wan. ganui 20; Nelson, New Plymouth, Gisborne and Napier 16 each. The number enrolled in all parts of the colony is 1308 out of over 2000 applications. " •
