WELLINGTON, April 21. A! deputation of the* Trades Conference waited on Mr. Tregear to-day and presented al number of resolutions passed. After discussing them, ,he promised to recommend their adoption to the Minister of Labor. In the ninth round of the Chess Championship Edwards defeated Earle, Kummen drew with Stilk, Cheland beat Brown. The game between Barnes and Mackay, after 5| hours' play, was adjourned until Monday, the position then being even. The tenth round began on Saturday night. Mason defeated Brown, and Kummer beat Edwairds-. Oh'eland should ultimately win against James, having a knight to the good; however, should there be a draw, these two players will tie for third place, each with one game to play. With one round to play, Barnes is half a win ahead of Mason for the championship, to maintain which he will require to win the | adjourned game against Mackay. The players were driven into the country-to-day.
