THIRD DAT. ADVANCE WINS THE AUTUMN HANDICAP: (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 21. For the Auckland Racing Club's Autumn Meeting, (third day) the weather was threatening »ancLshoweryy but the attendance was satisfactory. The sum of £9981 passed through the tote, making £32,094 for the meeting. A card of eight events was productive of some interesting racing, the chief event of. the day—the Autumn Handicap—going to Advance, who has thus secured the "plums" of the meeting.-c Advance, who went to the front after-half the journey had been covered^ never gave the field a chance, winning with ease. The last four furlongs were covered in 51Jsec, and the pace proved too much off-a cracker for the others.' ' . v ~ '
Maiden Hurdle Race, one mile and three-quarters—Forty-Seven, 1■; Cannongate, 2; Rapid Boy, 3. Also started: Donegal, Ongo, Leona, Boiinie Blue, and Woolman. Cannongate and Leona led to the hurdle at J;he'cutting, where .Donegal, came-to grief. Bonnie Blue Hhen took up the running, and led past"; the .•.Stand and to the seven furlong post, .attended by Leona and Cannongate.' At the halfmile post Forty-Seven was in the lead, on terms with Cannongate. In the straight the pair negotiated the last hurdle together, in the run home securing a victory by a head. Rapid Boy; was six lengths away third. Time, 3.28 1-5. Dividend, £5 2s. . . Handicap Hurdles, two miles—Kaiinate, 1; Tim, 2; Straybird, 3. These were the only staters. . They were bunohed to-gether till the sixth fence was reached, where Straybird fell back. At the last fence there was little to choose between the other two, and Kaimate landed first, lasting long enough to* win by a length. Straybird was seven lengths away third. Time, 3.58 2 r 5. Rosella and Record Reign led a bunched^field' past the ; Stand,; Advance laying second to last.'" Pony Hadicapj: five furlongs—Mamoa, 1; Mara, 2; The Slave, 3. Also started: Lena, Trooper, Athel,; Cuisine, Clansman, Texas, My Lord, Rapid. Mara made the running, but Mamoa shooting out at the Derby Stand, and coming very fast in the last few •strides, won by a length and a-half, The Slave being third. Timey: 1.5 2-5. Dividend, £19 10s. Criterion- Handicap, six furlongs— Winsome, 1; St. Innes, 2 ; Matamataharakiki, 3. Also started: Kettledrum, St.- Ada, Bacchus,; Ta, Huka. Conspirer, Argyle, Blossom, ■ Repetition, Honesty. Kettledrum made all the running from an indifferent start 'to the home turn, where Winsome, who was lying' two lengths away .second, caught him, and won as he liked by five .lengths, St. Innes just heating Matamataharakikf for second honors. Cavalier waa responsible for the-run-ning to_the'idistance,--where he was supplanted by The Needle and En Hakore, the pair fighting out a finish which resulted Jn'the judge being unable to separate them as they flashed past the post.
