Thames Borough Endowment.
"Cockatoo," to- the Te Aroha News regarding the Thames Borough endowment at Waitoa., says: "When the block wa^ surveyed it was considered a bottomless swamp, but as the settlers have their land and brought rtheir cultivation closer,' the wate* 1 has been cut off and the swamp consolidated, increasing its value-fully 30 per; cent. If the land held by a private person there would be a ; general outcry raised about the unearned increment and what noi, but as it ig held by a public f body the settlers can go on draining and improving it for the Thames Borough to reap the benefit. .Why cannot the Government take it over and givo the Thames ' people some land in their own County? I think that I am quite safe in saying thafi if it was cut up and offered through the C.L. Board there would not 'be a section idle in twelvre. months. No more outcry then about the want of creameries and schools, as they would naturally follow the settlement. There must be something done, as it is a disgrace to those in power to allow this valuable block to lie idle. Instead of-being called the Thames Borough endowment it should be called the Thames Borough blight."
