Druids' Sports at Wellington.
WELLINGTON, April. 17. The weather remained fine, butthe sky was overcasfy and it was extremely windy all day. The principal holiday attraction in town was the Druids' sports, at which there was a good attendance,"' and large fields, particularly in the foot events. The latter were well divided^ and, 1 despite the wind, somel remarkably,, gtiod time Avere put up. Logan won the half-mile, from scratch, in 2min 5 4-5 sees, and Ward the mile,, from the 10 yard mark in 4min 38 2-ssecs. Clark, Evans, Kerr, and Currie were the other winners. In the bicycle events, the- wind destroyed the scratch n^an's, chances, and at the er.d of the day,: such riders as Reynolds, Chalmers, Tierney, and Bennett were left lamenting, while those who had long starts were fighting out the finishes. Plunkett carried off the half, five, and one miles. For; the latter six cracks started, but; the time limit was fixed at 3min. Reynolds won, with Chalmers second, but the time returned waa 3min 25secss, arid the race was ordered to be run again. Thetwo winners declined to go, and at the second attempt Plunketb came in. ahead, with Tierney behind him. Time, 3min 20secs. This was also declared no race, and a pacer Avasput on for the third trial. Tierney dropped out, and Plunkett beat Bennett and Humphreys handsomely, in3min 5 4-ssecs.< The committee allowed the race, though the time was over the limit. Burton won his event, the Druids,' wheel race, two miles, with 120 yards start; andßandrup;, freom 35yds, oarried off the first-olaes mile. W. Clarkson won the two-mile (second-class), and Clark the threemile (second-class). There was a large attendance.
