PURIRI RACES.

PITEIKI, January 29. There were 500 people on the course o.day, and on the whole the sport was good. The best of good humor prevailed, and it appeared if all came o the races determined to be pleased md to ecjoy themselves. The followng are the results :—
Maiden Handicap.—Kate 1, Eowdy I, Merrymnid 3. Seven started. Handicap Hurdles—Wawata 1 Bobtail 2. Four started, but only two finished, Cock Eobin fell at ■he first hurdle, and the subsequent proceedings interested him no more Wawata baulked at the first aurdle, but gamely tried it again and succeeded, winning the race in style.
Settlers' Handicap.—Tiki Queen 1, Verhn 2, Mazurka 3. Ten started. Puriri Cup.-Cora 1, K a te 2, Verhn 3. Five started. Maori Eace.-lfaori 1, Wawata 2. Skylark 3. Three started. Pony Handicap.— Verlin I, Tiki Queen 2, Eowdy 3. Seven started. Consolation Race — Outlaw 1 Ylerrymaid 2, Mazurka 3. '
The club is to be congratulated upon having such energetic officials, to whom the success of the meeting is due. The hon. sec., Mr. W. Potts (junior) deserves special praise. The races were well handicapped, as. in nearly all cases the finishes were close.
