The Rev. F. W. Isitt, the Prohibition advocate, had a lively meeting at Stratford a tew days ago.- lie cnaliengeaMr. Symes, member for the district, by advertisement appearing the same evening, and a letter the previous day, to meet oi^n, on the platioran and substantiate the statement* he had made at Waitara, in reply to an attack by Mr. T. X Taylor at the 'sajme place. Because M^ Cymes'did. not respond, at the close of ma speech - Mi-. Isitt made a violent attack; upon Mr. SyjUios, branding iiiui'as a coward^ and defending Mr. Taylor, a friend oi many years. At this stage Mr.' JL ■ Gal&worth went on the platform, and said Mr. Sypiets, a friend-of twenty- , live years, was incapable of a dishouurable action. Mr. Symes, he said, hail been first attacked in an unwarrantable manner by Mr. Taylor. He ' claimed that both members of Parliament should be' allowed to settle them difference in the House. He protested against Mr.- isitt's interference: Mr. Isitt defended his action. There wat - considerable interruption at times, and the proceedings finally closed with. thanks to the Mayor for presiding. < A curiouh libel action against tbe Financial News> came, before Mr. Justice Day in London .the other week. It was brought by Mr; Tudor Crawshay, and arose out of' the circumstances connected with* the liquidation of .the National Bank of Wales. The article in the News associated Mr. Tudor Crawshay, a gentleman well known in 'mining quarters^ with! the bank directors, who were convicted, : lit the Old Bailey a,few,;months ago lor imisappropriaiing. ,£30,000/ . jkir. (Jarsonpfor-the Financial .News, said' they mistook Mr. Tudor Qrawshay, for ' Mr. F.. R. (Srawshay, his brother:, Themoment they found it out ; they; published an apology, and.now paid ,£IOO . into Court. -Mr. Williams, ,for plain- ; tiff, ridiculed the "generosity" of tke apology. Mr. Justice Day couldn't quite understand why. a'man like Mr. Tudor Crawshay should .want to. con.vert his character into. cash., lif he were Mr. Crawshay he would have been inclined to have taken the £100 when he was sure of getting it. That, in addition to an apology, which was inserted in a prominent position in the paper, was surely as much compensation as anybody under the circumstances ought to expect.. The; jury found for the Financial New*, observing that the amende offered vu •angle. •
