In the Supreme Court at Capetown, A. H. j Wurmsley, a commercial traveller, claimed £2000 from the Capetown Tramway Company for damages -alleged to have been sustained through the negligence of the company in an accident wnioii occurred on Octooer llih last, oh the Bea Point section of the tramways. The defence was that the plaintiff had himself to thank for the injuries jftaiotiff stated he was waiting for a tram, which was coming along very fast, and he bignalled the motonnan to stop. He suooeeded ia getting on the oar, but, owing to the handle being bent, he was unable to grasp it. f-11 off, and the wheel of the trailer which was attached to the car lifmt over his foot, which had to be subsequently amputated. He was in the hospital 64 days, and had tttree operations performed. The jury re» turned a verdict for plaintiff for £1000.
