Waihi Water Supply.
Good progress has been mad© by the contractor (Mr. M. J. Keane) with tha above work, and on Monday for the first time the water was turned into the pipes. Everything was found in good order, and full pressure revealed no leakages or weak points. Mr. Pai iner, County Hydraulic Engineer, was present. This water supply comes from the Waihi Company's condenser at No. 2 shaft, a storage tank being erected in close proximity to the shaft, and hence a four-inch main conveys the water mo the town, whence it is distributed in smaller pipes alongside the streets to sand pipes. It is an uufortunate thing that by the Councils agreement with the Waihi Company connections cannot be effected wit)i the houses, and it would certainly appear that a permanent supply whick could have been obtained for £2800 would be cheaper in the long run than this temporary supply, costing £800. However, the water is fairly good, and in case of fire the supply should be of assistance, there being a pressure of about sixty-three pounds in the main street. ;
