Waihi Water-Works Once More.

The Waihi Company's No. 2 pump is sending out the underground water at the rate of 50,000 gallons an hour, or was doing so last Wednesday; which quantity, we are informed, can I be increased to 70,000 gallons an hour, about as much as the May Queen big and boasted public pump can do. The Grand Junction Compauy can pour out at present another river at the rate of 25,000 gallons an hour ; and, when they have installed their additional pumping plant, which is expected to leave England at the end of this month, they will be able to discharge on the surface 50,000 gallons an hour of Waihi's well water. If to these two rivers be added the outpour from the Consols, the Consolidated, the Wt st, and other powerful pumpers, something like 200,000 gallons an hour of our underground water will Boon be pouring into the Ohine* muri Biyer, - and he, who sinks in Waihj seeking for a well, will find that he has been sinking and seeking, for a " sell." In fact already people with wells here .find. that they are being thus "sold," for this pumping business is draining the wells dry, and soon no well-water will be ob finable in Waihi. We think that Mr Walter Johnstone's scheme, for having the underground water from the mines pumped into huge' reservoirs on Martha Bill for a Warni water supply, was worthy of being cpneidc r 3d at the recent public meeting along with the other three schemes already referred to in our columns. Such a supply would be more dean, copious and constant, and would-haw a greater capability for high pressure than water obtained from a super* ficial source. We, therefore, suggest that this scheme hi considered by the Engineer along with the other three, in order that it may be also submitted to the public meeting with the other schemes.—Waihi Miner;
