AN INCIPIENT OUTBREAK.

At about twenty minutes past eight o'clock last night, as Mr Lowe, the Librarian, was engaged in binding a book in the Reference Library, he noticed a glare of fire at the back of the building. On his going to ascertain the cause he found that the closet was in a blaze. He immediately procured a few buckets of water and extinguished the flam9s. The fire apparently was caused through some person having thrown a lighted match in the paper box, as it was on the same side that the fire- was burning. The damage was but slight, but in view of the fact that the roof of the closet is of shingles, which had been repaired with pieces of old kerosene tins, Mr Lowe will apply to the Borough Council for a new closet, with corrugated iron roof.
