Auckland, March 21. Mr Wm. Eddowes, of Thames, who intends visiting Western Australia, left by the Elingainite this evening, Mr Pittar's 30 footer yacht Meteor was shipped to Sydney by the Elingamite this evening in order to take part in a series of intercolonial sailing races. Mr Pittar accompanies the yacht, and Mr T. Ryan also left to form one of the boat's crew.

JamesLyell, engineer on the steamer Beatrice, had his left foot severely crushed during a trip to Waiwera. His foot slipped between two wheels. The Hon. James Carroll paid a visit to the Blind Institute this afternoon. He proceeds to Huntly during the week, where a large native meeting is to be held.

His Honor Justiqe Connolly left for New Plymouth to-day. The Premier visits Auckland some time next month.

Some anxiety was felt yesterday owing to the absence of the yachts Mahoe and Lupe. ■ A cable received to-day from England announces the sudden death of Mrs L. Welstead {nee Miss M. P. Chambers) from typhoid fever. Mw Welstead was the youngest daughter of Mr John Chambers, of Auckland, and was only married here in May last. The news of this young lady's decease was received here with sincere feelings of regret, as she .was well known and very popular in society circles.
