Auckland, January 27 This morning the following sworn statement was made to the. Official Assignee in Bankruptsy by Richard Neil Thomas, a "bankrupt :-~"For the three years I have been engaged as storeman and gum buyer for a firm in this city at a salary of 48s per week. I am- a single man. Before gettiDg my present work I was in debt about * £90 owing to sickness and being out of "employment for six month*. Twocredir ' tors got judgment against me, and this necessitated my filing. I have absolutely nothing in the nature of assets. A ftiend fouud the money for i filing and solicitor's costs, amounting together to £10." Question: '' Are you aware that this £10 would 40, c been sufficient to pay all your creditors 2s 6d in the £. Did 1 you make them any offer before filing?" Answer: "I am aware that it would have paid 2s 6d in the £, bnt did not make the offer." ' ! i The bankrupt continuing said : — " Owing to this trouble my employers are now giving me only temporary work as a laborer at the same rate of pay, and I may be turned off any day. Under these circumstances I cannot see my way to set aside any of my ■wages towards paying off my debts,"
