Fatal Accident to a Thamesite.
! The Barrier v Miner, published at Broken Hill, .announces in a recent issue a serious accident to an old Thames resident, Mr W. Jennings. We quote as follows :— " William Jennings, underground manager of Block 13, Proprietary mine, and a well-known rifle shot and man about town, met with a serious accident yesterday afternoon. About '1.15 o'clock he was riding a horse along Chloride street, near Beryl street; when crossing the tramline the animal . slipped and came to the ground, bringing Jennings with him. Jennings was thrown violently on to his head and lay there senseless., while those who ran to his rescue thought he was dead. Without delay he was picked up and conveyed to the Hospital, where Dr Seabrook and Dr Brown examined him and found that the skull was fractured. Everything; possible was done to alleviate the effect of the injuries, among other things the s^ull being trepanned, but this, notwithstanding the patient spent a very bad night, and early this morning was in a very critical condition. "Sergeant Scott, vice-president of the Ambulance Club, was one of the first on,the scene, and Mr E. K.Beaumont, fthe a ßecretary, was also quickly in attendance. Under Sergeant Scotts direction, the necessary 'first aid' was tendered to the injured man, while Mr Beaun o it cycled for Dr Brown, who speedily at^er d •■"• The police stretcher was used to take the patient to the hospital, but the want of a proper ami ul n c was radly felt."
We regret to learn that Mr Jennings has since died of his injuries.
