Ro'leston will contest the Chairmanship of Com. tnitteesagainst Mr Guinntsj with a view to : the ■ succeasorship to the Speaker,when Sir M O'Rorke retires. After Sir M. G'Borke had been proposed as SpfeaKer a ebmplete silence j reigned for between-twenty and thirty-' minutes according to the etiquette of the occasion, but no other nomination was forthcoming. Sir Maurice's reply of thanks was in the best possible taste, the speech being well delivered excellent; in composition, and worthy of the occasion. Captain Russell's reirarks though complimentary may be said to have been cautious.
