Water Rights.
The usual sitting of the Paeroa 'VfV'Ws Court takes place today, and in addition to ordinary business several rather interesting' cate* will be fought out. One is iv connection with an application made by the Woodrtce'e Oo'd Mining Company under svotion 3 of the Mining Act Amendment Act, 1891, for aa exchange of the titles of two w/t terrace*. This is opposed by the Ne-v Zealand Crown Mines Company, on tho groups that the races have been abandoned and aßdSghts | under them have long ceased to exist. In short, the allegation is that the Woodstock Company had 20 sluice-heads of water granted prior to the Crown Company, but through the non-construction of race and non-usage of water all rights to the same were practically abandoned. The case will undoubtedly be one of considerable importance to the mining community, inasmuch as it will decide the validity of a large number of waterrights granted, though not utilised, in the district. Mr Cotter, of Auckland, will appeir for tne~applicants, and Mr Theo. Cooper instructed by. Miller and Porritt, will appear for the objectors.
