KURUNUI-CALEDONIAN.

During the week the works have been principally confined to the stopes upou the junction of Darby's, and the crossreef at No. 1 level, and also stoping upon the crossreef in a westerly direction. Gold is very frequently seen in the ore coming to hand from the stopes at the junction. At the latter point of operation the ore is well mineralised and looks promising, and the whole of the stone is being saved for treatment. Crushing with two shifts is now in progress at the mill, and a payable result is anticipated.

McISAACS. Some very serviceable work is being carried out in this company's mine, j and on the whole very satisfactory I progress has been made. The drive upon the Australian reef eastward has been cleaned out and put in a thorough state of repair for a total length of 300 ft. A splendid road has been laid down and Mr Loughlin, the manager, now intends to push on the drive upon the course of the lode. At present this is divided into two portions, each rib measuring abont 4 inches thick, A good class of country prevails, and as the work advances the manager is hopeful that the lode will come to gether and assume its usual defined conditions. Below this level good gold was obtained by the original workers, who carried their operations to the water level, where hand labor was found inadequate to deal with the invading element. As there are hundreds of feet of virgin country eastward of this face, and uuliinited backs available, Mr Loughlin intends to push on with the drive in the hope of meeting with another rich shoot Other development work is actively proceeding in the Mclsaac's section, but there is nothing new to chronicle.

GRAFTON UNITED. I With respect to the relinquishing of' the option over the Grafton United property I understand there has been no disappointment on the development of the mine, but on the contrary, the engineer anJ representative of the option holders on whose recommendation it was taken up, are more than over convinced that it will prove exceedingly valuable, The sole reason why the option was forfeited was that the African-Austral Syndicate have decided to withdraw altogether for the present from mining speculation in \ New Zealand.

GREAT BARRIER. The half-yearly meeting of the Great Barrier Company was held today. The directors' report was of a very encouraging character. The Chairman stated that on the adjoining property, which was being worked by Messrs Brett and Lawson, a winze had been sunk 60 leet, with the result that the reef had been got and proved to be "very rich. Mr Clayforth said the winze was just on the boundary of the two properties, and it was likely that the Great Barrier Company would get that reef. If they did get it as rich as it was in the adjoining 'property then they would have one of the finest miues in New Zealand. The balance sheet showed a balance in hand of £1070 3s lOd
