The steamer Waikato is bringing out from England a consignment of red' deer, pheasants and partridges for the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society. A cablegram from London states it is reported tbat>the Earl of Banfurly, one of the Lords-in-Waiting, succeeds Lord Glasgow as Governor of New Zealand.
Mr J. M. Foy was enabled to photograph the group of Maoris assembled on Saturday afternoon jn connection with the tangi. We are very glad indeed to hear that a musical society has been formed at the Thames, and we trust that the Liedertafel, with Mr W. R. Steward as conductor, will have a very successful career. The officers are Mr J. Pago, secretary; Mr W.Me Gowan, treasurer; and Messrs J. Watson, jun., A. Law and F. Dobbs, committee. *Vo. are requested to state that persons desirous of joining should communicate' with the above named officers.
