MR WILLIAM MACKENZIE.
GRAND FAREWELL,
This popular baritone and entertainer, with his talented company, arrived in town this morning after a prolonged tour of th« provinces, and will give a grand farewell performance on Saturday evening next, previous to an extended tour of New Zealand and Australia. The success achieved by Mr Mackenzie and his exceptionally clever company has been phenomenal ever since their visit here during Christmas week, the audiences cheering at the conclusion of each entertainment.
The programme for Saturday is of the most varied character, and calculated to suit the popular taste immensely. In addition to powerful descriptive and humorous songs, laughter-provoking stories will be given by Mr Mackenzie, who is a host in himself, and arouses the greatest enthusiasm everywhere. The reputation gained by this vocalist while touring as baritone to the Bessie Doyle Concert Company holds the record, and the number of items he contributed were always re-de-manded, and as many as eleven and thirteen songs had to be given before the audience would be satisfied.
Miss Jessie Glover, the gifted elocutionist, is still with the company, and has won fresh laurels by her admirable acting in scenes from "Romeo and Juliet," "Macbeth," "As Y«u Like It," " The Merchant of Venice," &c, &c. A great treat is in store for lovers of Shakerpeare, as Miss Glover will appear in the potion scene from "Romeo and Juliet" on Saturday evening. The pourtrayal of this favorite character is described as thoroughly artistic, and very effective. This young lady will also charm with songs, recitals, and dances, and take part with Mr Mackenzie in two duets.
Miss Celia Dampier, the wonderful child violinist, is now a members of this versatile combination, and will certainly prove an attraction. Her playing has recently been described by the Press in the most eugolistie terms. This young lady is making a farewell toiir of the colony, previous to completing her studies at the Leipsic Constsrvatorium, Germany, and doubtless her many admirers here will give her a cordial reception.
Master Mackenzie, the juvenile dancer, who has won three medals since leaving the Thames, will again delight with Scotch and Irish dances, and Miss Gertrude Anderson contributes two solos and acts as accompanist. Although this programme is sufficiently attractivd in itse'f, theerening's entertainment will conclude with a grand scene from " The Bonnie Fishwife," Miss Jessie GloTor appearing as Maggie MacFarlane, the fishwife—a part which, her talented mother, Miss Jessie Kaymond (Mrs Robert Glover) made famous. As Miss Glover inherits her mother's genius in a marked degree the solo " Caller Herrin," and the bewitching acting in this delightfully written comedy should be eminently successful.
Mr Mackenzie appears as " Wild Oats," 'and takes part in the triple Highland Fling that brings this finally to a close. As the management have determined to make the farewell a popular demon; irr.fci >n the prices will be circle and stalls is, all other parts 6d. On Sunday night Mj- " gives another saored evening of song, story, and instrumental music. Ftill particulars will be pubjis'icd,
