In connection with the floral social to be held on Tuesday evening next at the Academy of Music, those who intend competing for the prizes given for table decorations, floral designs, sprays, and buttonholes, are requested to forward their names to Mrs M, H. Payne not later that 5 p.m. on Friday.
Mb William Mackenzie, the well-known baritone, humorist, and entertainer, will perform here on Saturday, and will give a sacred concert on Sunday. Mr Mackenzie has recently been appearing at Coromandel, where lie was supported by Miss Jessie Glover (elocutionist, character vocalist, and danseuse), Miss Celia Dampier (juvenile violinist), Miss Marion Kennaugh (pianist), and Master W. F. Mackenzie (juvenile dancer and medallist).
At the Waiotahi Schoolroom this evening Mr E. H. Taylor will deliver a lantern lecture on the well-known Temperance story, "Ten Nights in a Bar Room." Admission is free, but a collection will be taken up in aid of the Waiotahi Unsectarian Sunday School.
Mr W. N. Sxehe, who was a heavy loser by the recent iu*e at Coromandel, has re-built his Star and Garter Hotel, and will open it in about a fortnight.
The Paeroa Assessment Court, which was fixed for Monday, did not sit owing to no objections being lodged. People in the Upcountry must be prosperous wheu there is no one to growl at the assessment.
