DECISIONS OF THE CABINET
(Per Press Association.) "Wellington, April 14
Among the measures to be introduced next session will be Bills deal ing with private Benefit Societies and abolishing special juries and coroner's juries. Magistrates will conductcoroners' enquiries.
The Cabinet has decided to grant the widow of the late Inspector Thomson a compassionate allowance equal to 18 months' salary.
It has been decided to enforce the vaccination law, as it is found there is a large falling off in the number of children vaccinated.
The following Board has been appointed t» deal with the applications for decorations for bravery, etc. t —The Colonial Secretary, Sir J. Elector Major Quick, Mr Martin, S.M., and Mr J. Ross, all of Wellington. The Cabinet also voted a sum of .£2600 to complete roads at Cheviot. Instructions have been given to all registrars of electors to have the rolls printed and to include in them the supplementary rolls of last election and make the list as complete as possible, Later. At the Cabinet meeting held to-day a vote of £1000 for the Wellington harbour defences was passed. A further appropriation of £1000 was made for the Eketahuna-Woodville Railway.
It was rumoured that the vacant portfolio of Attorney-General hkd been filled by the appointment of Lieut.Colonel Pitt, of Nelson, but this proved to be incorrect, as it has'been decided to defer the matter until a full n.eeting of the Cabinet, to be held about a fortnight hence.
The Hon. J. McKenzie left for the South this afternoon, and will be absent about a fortnight.
It is understood the session will open somewhat earlier than last year.
