Capetown, April 12. News has been received that Brand's column was attacked and driven in a corner by the Matabele on the Tuli road. There were two casualties. Doctor Macfarlane, with 230 men | and guns, has gone to relieve them. The natives are said to possess ample grain. April 13. Lieutenant Brand's column was relieved and was proceeding to Wanda when a force of fifteen hundred natives attacked the column, and a desperate fight ensued. The Matabele vainly tried to silence the maxims, but were shot down in large numbers, and lost 550 men. Two Impis are eating cattle and performing war dances within twelve miles of Buluwayo.
The newspapers urge the despatch, of regular troops to the scene of the rising, as it is feared Sir H. Robinson's optimism will lead to a disaster.
There are 800 Murtiui-Hemy rifles and three quarters of a million cartridges at Maf eking, and 330 Lee Metford rifles and 50,000 cartridges at Kiinberley.
Reinforcements are pushing on to Macloubie.
