The New Hall.—after the minutes of the previous meeting had been read and confirmed, the President congratuated the members at the attainment of a hail of their own, and expressed the opinion that it would eventually

prove a good investment. He stated that the Committee of the Union had held a meeting at which they had considered the matter of giving a vote of money from the funds of the Branch to the Brunnerton Relief fund, and the conclusion they had come to was to recommend a sum of £50 for that purpose. Of course it rested with the meeting tq say whether such a course should be adopted or not, or whether the sura should be more or less, but apart from whatever sum might be voted it should be borne in mind that the miners were all individually subscribing to the lists that were in circulation as well. He might also add that when the news of the sad accident reached the Thames, he had. as President of the Union, telegraphed a message of condolence and sympathy to the Mayor of Brunnerton. If it was decided to vote a sum of £50, then it would be necessary to take a ballot of all the members at an early date.— On the motion of Mr Dare, seconded by Mr McDonnell, the sum of £50 was voted, the ballot of the members to be taken on Saturday, the 25th inst.
