BREVITIES.

I To-day is the anniversary of the battle of Waterloo. This week's issue of The Despatch will be an attraction to lady readers, lists of the costumes worn by those present at the recent St. George's and Catholic Church socials being contributed by " Bisque." John Clarken and wife come before the Court to morrow.

The demand for The Despatch has increased wonderfully of late, and the issues have been sold clean out for the last live weeks.

It is the intention of the Rugby Union to initiate a second junior competition, and three or four teams are mentioned as likely to compete. A meeting to form a school boys' club is to be held at the Shortland Fire Brigade station this evening at 7 o'clock.

" Bill Adams," John Birch's Waterloo hero, would have been appropriate last night.

" How to kiss," by "One Who Knows," should be interesting to young readers of '/The Despatch." Owing to the bad weather experienced last evening Mrs Bagot Birch and company did not perform.

A poem on " The Keferee," by an eyewitness of the recent Waitekauri— Paeroa football match, will appear in this week's issue of " The Despatch." The Walroa Guard/an hears that the Bank of New Zeaiand is foreclosing on a large estate in the Poverty Bay district, the .amount involved being something over £50,000. Several others are stated to be Ijkely to follow. _ I
