OUR GOLDFIELDS.
(By Our Special Reporter.)
REVIEW OF THE WEEK,
During the week the local market has been very quiet. Although May Queen responsible for a highly remunerative return, with good hauls of picked stone, still the shares failed to advance. Very weak business was done from 9s 6<J, 9s 9d, lO?, and 10s 3d, the market closing with buyers at 9s 6d. Other local stocks are quiet. Bazelbanks have been sold at 2s lOd, buyers 2s 9d ; Monntaiii, sellers4s 6J, with but very little busines*. There is no buyers of Cambria at lOd. Norfolk advanced from It 2d to 2s ; City of Dunedin from lid to Is Bd. Up.country stocks have advanced rapidly. SiNertons sold as high as Ids 6d. Enquiry for shares at home was the cause for the quick rise. Excel lent progress is being made with the,, various works in connection with the mine," and will in a short time cause a still farther rise. Golden Cross have been sold at 475. Alphas have uM Mh>'gh a* 3* 9J, Talismans 7", 7s 3d, and sold as bigb as 7s 9d; sellers 8?. They have again declined to 7s 6d. New Bonanzas stand at Is 9d. There is a probability of the amalgamation with the Talisman coming off. If so these
shares will see a further advance. Wealth
of Nations advanced from 6d to Bd, 9d, 10J, and Is; sellers lid, buyers lOd. Golden Treasure also advanced fr >m 6d to lOd. The poor return from 'he Mouowai caused these shares to decline to sellers 4s, no buyer?. Waiomo stocks are dead. The
same remark applies to the Tapu mines,
Whans have changed hands freely at B^d, 9d, and lOd ; business done, 10|d ; buyers lOd. Driving eastward on the reef will
very likely cause an advanre on these
shares, as there is a splendid chance of success attending the company's works iv t'ais direction. HAZELB^RK. The rise being put up in the foot wall of the No. 3 is still passing through quartz, but so far no gold has been seen. It is the intention to start another prospecting level in the same locality. It will therefore be seen that works are to be energetically continued.
