THAMES V. TARAEU.
The order of things was reversed last Saturday by the Tararns winning their first match since the formation of the ojub three years ago. Owing to a misunderstanding regarding the brake it was past 4 p.m. before they arrived on the field. No time was lost in making a start, and Wiggins and McGregor were the first to represent the Tararus against the bowling of Paul and Allen. Both men played steadily, and runs came very slowly until the fourth over, when Wiggins got Allen away for 2, and then runs came quicker. Buchan, taking Allen's place, dismissed Wiggins with his first ball. Newton filled the gap and began scoring straight away. McGregor, who had been playing very steadily, unfortunately played one of Buchan's on his wicket after making 10. Wathan, taking his place, put Buchan away for 3, but immediately afterwards was clean bowled by Paul. Wolff now joined Newton, and the score soon reached 36, when Newton, too eager to run, got out. Olimo and Hall were soon disposed of, and having three men short, the innings closed for 41 runs.
The Tararus now took the field, Clark and Egginton facing the bowling of Newton and McGregor. Clark played the first ball of Newton's into McGregor's hands. Gibbons filled the vacancy, but the second ball he received sent him to the right-about. Buchan now appeared with the bat, but Newton was not to be out-done, for the next ball shattered John's timbers, making a gloomy outlook for the Thames—three good men out for no runs in the first over. Paul now became. Egginton's partner. McGregor, Tararu's only senocd bowler on the ground, was not so fortunate in his first over, for Egginton made five. However, the last ball off the next oter by Newton reached Egginton's wicket, who retired, being the highest scorer for the Thames. Allen, in trying to play one of McGregor's slows, was bowled after mak.ing two. Paul's turn to retire now came, for Newton took his bails clean off. Park was run out after making 2. Aitken and Newman made one each. Hindman, the last man (not out) none. The win was a popular one seeing the Tararus had fought so long against odds.
