The Waiotahi Creek School.
TO BE CLOSED BY BOARD OF EDUCATION.
PUBLIC MEETING TO BE HELD
Considerable indignation was aroused amongst the residents of the Waiotahi Creek and others when it became known last evening that the Waiotahi School Committee had received intimation from the Board of Education that it is the intention of the latter to close the Waiotahi Creek School. It would appear that the decision of the Board is based upon a report from Inspector Crowe, who says that the school is not required, as there is ample accommodation at the Waio-Karaka School, whilst more than 90 per cent, of the children attending the Waiotahi School reside between it and the Waio-Karaka. Mr Crowe also informs tbe Board that settlement in the Waiotahi district is diminishing.
We understand that a public meeting- of the residents is to be convened for the purpose of recording an emphatic protest against the decision of the Board, aud have no doubt that the latter will yet see the wisdom of reconsidering their action.
