Miners' Right Question.

TELEGRAMS to HON. ME SEDDON

In accordance with an understanding arrived at last night by a deputation from the Thames Miners' Union with the Hon. A. J. Cadman, the latter this morning forwarded the following telegram to the Hod Mr Seddon:— " Hon. B. J. Seddon, " Wellington. '• Had interview with deputation of Thames Miners' Union last night on the subject of the payment of twenty shillings for miners' rights. Strongly urged that you should delay enforcing law until you had visited the Thames. You might fortify yourself with Law Officers'opinion as to whether tbe words in clause 2 of the agreement of 1867, «n appendix to the Journals of 1869, viz.: 'No person will be permitted to mine for gold on the land described unless he be the holder of a miner's right empowering him on that behalf: the payment for such miners' right shall be the sum of £1 per annum,' can be consjtrued to refer to men working for wages o\r only men mining on their own behalf. ; • 'j " A. " Monster pubiic meeting under the auspices of tiie 'M'haines Miners' Union was held last Sabui'dayinight, when the following resolution -wa* '.carried unanimously :—' That this moetirg hereby authorises the Committee of the 3!-fimors"' Union to wire to Hon. Mr Seddon requesting him to instruct the "Warden to slfcay all proceedings regarding miners' rights*, until a deputation from that body waited u[pon him, when he visits the Thames as proiAuKed.'
