Licensed Victuallers' Association.

[Press Association.] Wellington, Last night. The chief recommendations brought under the notice of the Premier to-day^by the Licensed ' Victuallers' Association were that compensation should be given for loss of license ; that there should be an appeal from the decision of tho Licensing Committee, and that the ordinary hour for closing hotels should be eleven instead of ten. The Premier stated in reply that tho Bill could not be introduced by Government this session. Latee. i The Licensed Victuallers' Association met again this efternoon, when the members of the deputation who waited on Mr Ballaace in the forenoon, explained that the interview had been of a satisfactory nature. The Premier, it was said, sympathised with, the publicans in several of tho mattsrs complained of, and promised to give his assistance in remedying some of the existing evils. The deputation had urged a return to the old system of adjudicating on licenses, when tho Resident Magistrate and two Commissioners comprised the Bench, but this Mr Bnllance was not prepared to concede. The Conference appointed a committee to draft a Bill to be introduced this session by a private member. Its chief pro* visions will be compensation to be paid to licensees whose licenses are taken away, and to provide for appeals against the decision of the licensing committee.
