The Government have bought a large portion of the Waitekauri gold field block from the Datives, the price paid being £1250. The County Chairman has reesired a r: ply to the monster petition re the Te &.t hs Paeree railway ; it states that tbe fii lest eonsiderfet'on <vill be to it by lbs Public Work* Department.
It is reported that Mr L. J. Bagoall has retired from the contest for the Te Aroha seat. Sir. W. Bailer passed through Paeroa to-day en route for Themes.
