The orioket match, eleven of tho Thames Cricket Club v. drapers and tradesmen, was played at the Parawai Gordons yesterday afternoon, but want of time did not allow oi the game being finished. The drapsre were the firs!; to go to tho vricketß, and ran up the respectable score of 62 runs, Billings (not out) 23, Hilton 14, Gribble 12, and Laing 7 being the highest; scorers, and obtaining tbeir runs by very good orioket, the first named player especially bo, bia play being characterised by free hitting combined with good defence, and with practice be would make a good batsman. The Thames team on going in to bat were unable to make a stand against tho trundling of Messrs Gribble and Laing, which wus backed up by good fielding, and°tbey were finally disposed of for the small scare of 39 runs, of whiob. number Peel 18, and Wiggins 8, were the highest scorers. Messrs Wiioox end Gribble deserve great credit for tho splendid OAtchea they made, which dispoied of Messrs Wiggins? and Egginton. In the second innings tho drapers were not ao sue* cessful as in the first, but they managed to put together 47 runs, thus leaving the Thames 71 to win the match, and when time was called they bad made 46 for the loss of two wiolcete, the scores being—• Wiggins (not out), 30; Peel, caught, 9; find Etigintoti, caught, 7. In. this innings 0. Johnston, for the drapers, effected'a splendid catch. The return match will be played in the course of a few weeks.
