The Dunedin Exhibition.
TJEJE. QQLQNIAL EXHIBITS.
(Pee Pbesb Associatjon)
Dunbdin, Last night.
While the foreign, exhibits are poor, comparatively speaking, and only confined to Great Britain, France, Germany, 4merica. and Japan, the colonial exhibits are vety isonspicuous. Victoria and .New South Wales have almost the whole of one avenue to thetuselvee, besides a good obare of the transverse. Of the two, New
South Wales seera> the most forward, which is rather * carious," iseefng lsow the "Victorians threw tbemseives into the anna of Mr Twopeny, whilst the klsiet .eoloay inclined to haag back. The difficulty between Qapap ftfeyer sod M. Joabert does not seem te 'fysvg jntpr-fered raupb. with the work of the Court Her %ineral eectiqo has been decorated with" gay banners bearing the nstuee of the oiiniwg districts, and blue batiQingg, fringed with yellow t&tselt, ««t off capital)/. Tht Victorians
have a special art gallery of quite respectable dimonaiona, containing several hundred pictures. The New South Wft'fia Picture Court is smaller, but as neither are finished yet, a comparison at this stage would hardly be fair. The fernery is almost finished. A large Maori house from Napier is now being put together in the gardens. The fagade of a smaller one has been set up in the South Seas court. The dome is not altogether an attractive object. It was originally proposed to place it in the centre of the Exhibition, and make it 4D feet higher, but economic considerations caussd its removal to the front. The lower part is covered with zinc, and the upper with bright yellow oilcloth. The combination is not a thing of beauty. Unless the approaches to the Exhibition are improved, there will be loud complaints : one half of the street is loose metal and the rest dust. All the Corporation has done at present is to lay down a decent pathway. They are supposed to intend to smooth the roadway, but it cannot be done to any extent by Tuesday.
This day. THE PEEMIEft TO BE PEESENT.
The Premier comes down by the s.s. Wairarapa to assist at the Exhibition openiug ceremonies.
