The Queen's Economy.
The office of Clerk-Marshal (says Trutb), which is worth £ICOOa-year,is,as I stated last week, a sinecure, which ought to be abolished. I learn that the QueeD has given orders that no successor to Lord Alfred Pagefc is to be appointed, bat that the place is to remain vacant for the present; nor is the Lieutenancy of the Yeoman of the Guard, which is another good berth, to be filled up. The suppression of these posts would be a highly commendable reform if the country were to benefit by the saving of the salaries; but I understand that the Queen limply intends to pocket the money herself, as economy is now the mot d'ordre at Court, in order that the accumulations for her Majesty's grandchildren may be as large as possible. It should be remembered, however, that the Civil List was originally settled on the express understanding that so muoh money was to be devoted every year to the salaries of members of the Boyal Household, and it is, therefore, a flagrant breach of the bargain with the country to get rid of the offices, but to continue to receive the salaries for the same. I hear that other economical changes of the same kind are to be carried "Out in the Boyal Household as soon as possible. .
