An unusual scene occurred at the declaration of the poll at Inrerqargill. Mr Hatch, one of the defeated candidates, said that the clerks at the chief polling booth had distributed papers to electors which had been marked aDd folded and names had been placed on the roll which had no right to be there. Mr Hatch dis» tinctly stated that the Returning Officer was no more fit for the position than dogs in the street. The Returning Officer admitted that the poll clerk had issued one or two votinjr papers, but only when he had to leaye the booth for a few minutes.
