OUR MINES.

MOANATAIRI.

The prospects of this company in the Caledonian end of their mine hare decidedly improved during the lait few|days. Biekards and party, who are tributicg upon the Bed Queen leader at No. 3 level of the Caledonian mine, hare extended their drive to the Moanatairi boundary, and it should now be continued on behalf of that company. The crashing! obtained lately bare yielded, at the rate of 3o*s to

the load, while the last gave 23ozs from 8 loads. During the last few feet the leader bas been rather disturbed, but it is again making in the face, and in the course of a short distance will apparently be as strong a body of quarts ss pre» viously. This drive is fully 1000 ft., from the shaft, and it is earnestly to be hoped that the directors will push it on with all possible expedition, as there is an excel* lent chance of meeting with something in this direction, and the country to be traversed is all virgin ground. In order that work can be systematically prosecuted, however, it is nesesssry that a winze should be sunk from No. 2 level, from which the Moanatairi drove in the Golden Crown, and communication effected with the drive from No. 3 of the Caledonian. This winze would prove of great service as a means of affording ventilation, and would also be the proper and almost only way to prove where the Cambria reef will be at the depth at which the Moanatairi are now driving. The drive would also pass nn« derneath where the Cambria have obtained rich gold, so that we have no doubt the work will commend itself to the directors.
