ROYAL OFFICERS.
la a few years, says Truth, we shall have every lucrative post, both in the army and navy, filled by Koyalists and Serenities. It is bad enough, even at present ;°for the Duke of Edinburgh holds the Meditaerranean command for five years, that being the " blue ribbon" of the naval berths, and the Prince of Leiningen has the Nore command ,another well paid and highly-desirable appointment. The Duke of Cambridge holds several lucrative posts, Prince Edward of/ Saxe-Weimar has the Irish command, and ttie Duke of Connauyht has been lifted over the heads of dozens of senior officers, who have served well and long, to the Bombay command, one of the few great prizes of the service. Then we have Prince Louis of Battenberg and Prince George of Wales both coming on in the same way, and there will soon be others. The whole system is intolerable to old officers, who find that, just as they are expecting to obtain some substantial recognition of their services, a Koyal whipper-snapper jumps in and clutches the prize.
