Dr Goe was to-day inducted Bishop of Melbourne, in Westmininistcr Abbey. The ceremony was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury and Bishop of London, assisted by other Bishops. A full choral service was given, and the Abbey was largely attended by the general public. Canon Leadman preached a sermon, in which he urged that the development of thf Church throughout the empire should proceed on parallel lines.
London. February 23
At a meeting of St. George's Club last night, at which the Agents-general for the Colonies were present, Hon. Mr Goschen, Chancellor of the Exchequer, made a speech in which he urged the necessity of all political parties uniting to support the Government at the present crisis. It was necessary, he declared, jfco show the colonies that England still retained the art by which she had built up her Empire.
In the Houses of Commons today, Sir James Fergu-sonj- Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, announced* that the number of French troops in New Hebrides had lately been reduced, and Her Majesty's Government are arranging with the French Government for removal of all troops from those islands.
