This day. The Wellington Jewel Robbery.

The man Alleodale, arrested on the charge of being concerned in the jewellery robbery at Wellington, was brought up at the R.M, Court yesterday. Three watches which had been pawned in Christohurch were indentified by Mr Hash, an employe of Mr Jennes', as part of the stolen property, and the prisoner was remanded to Wellington. The Southern Cross Petroleum Works. The directors of the Southern Cross Petroleum Company yesterday received the following telegram from their works : —" On Friday last the depth of the bore was 269 ft, boring through the same stra* turn. The rock is soft. Oil is showing freely in the rock. Gas is coming in such quantities as to be troublesome.
