CAMBEIA.
A. gratifying telegram to the effect that • 201bs of picked stone had been obtained at No. 3 level was posted this morning. The manager states that it comes from the hanging wall of the drive, and that the mineral resembles that of the intermediate level. DARWIN. The manager reports for the past week as follows : —" The drive on the reef at the No. 3 level is in a distance of 64ft. from the crosscut; it is still carrying good mineral, and colors of gold are seen when breaking down the reef. The reef in the stopes above No. 2 level is carrying nice mineral; a^few pounds of picked stone were obtained from a small stringer in the hangingwall of the reef. I will start cfushing in a day or two. — H. W. Moobe." MOANATAIRI EXTENDED. The shaft has now been sunk the required depth, viz. 480ft,—20ft lower than the Cambria No. 3 level. The country is favorable sandstone. Some alterations will be made to the machinery during the next fortnight, to enable two cages to be used. The crosscut north of the slide at No. 1 level is in firm white sandstone, favorable for gold. MOANATAIRI. Williams and party have already obtained 3220zs 4iwtsgold from 2801bs of specimens, and there is more gold yet to be cleaned up. The company is still crosscutting at the tunnel level to pick up Williams'leader. Three fine veins containing excellent mineral have been out, but the manager is of opinion that the one being sought is not yet to hand. The crosscut at the 30ft. level has been stopped this week through gas, the result of the wind being in a certain quarter. The 150 ft. level is being cleared out aad tim bered, and it is hoped by this means to secure ventilation. CALEDONIAN, Keparing the boiler is proceeding. The only work being carried on underground is driving the Red Queen Leader at No. 3 level, SAXON. Stoping operations are being continued on No. 1 reef, gold being seen freely in the quartz broken out, and the manager is of opinion that it will yield much bet* ter than that previously treated. The reef in the drive above No. 6 level, is about Ift. ia thickness, and dabs of gold have been seen in the quartz. I
