HOW MANY BULLETS IT TAKES TO KILL A MAN.
La Nature publishes some interesting details as to the number of bullets required to kill a man. At Soferiuo it ii estimated that 8,400,000 shots we're fired by the Austrians, which occasioned a loss to the French and Sardinian troops of 2000 killed and 10,000 wounded ; so that in this battle 42,000 shots were required to kill and 700 to wound one man, showing an expenditure of 2881b3 of lead to each man killed. The Germans, however, in the Franco-German war appear to have shot much better, for it is calculated that with an expeniiture of 30,000,000 rile bullets and 362 cannon shots the French lost 35,000 killed or died from wounds, thus reducing the average number of shots required to. kill a man to 13,000, about 86!bs. This calculation must have been arrived at by assessing the cannon shots fired at the number of bullets they would correspond with in weight.
