[By Telegbaph.] (fbom oub own cobbespondent.) Wellington, Last night. The annual report of the Goveroment Insurance Commissioner was presented to Parliament today. In the ordinary branch 3216 new proposals were received during the year for an aggregate sum.of £940,737. 693 were declined or dropped, and 2523 accepted—the assuring £702,912, and producing a net premium income of £264,888, being an increase of £152,562 on new assurances of the previous year. The death claims comprised 83 policies on 74 lives representing £35,040, which was increased by the accrued bonus of £36.759. The death rate was considerably below expectations, and the claims were nearly met by the accrued.interest on funds invested which was £313,109 for the year. One policy was cancelled during the year, 136 were surrendered, and 897 lapsed. The year's income from all sources was £171,315, an increase of £14.700 on the previous year, aad the year's transactions increased the accumulated fund by £96,659, bringing it up to £653,893, notwithstanding the additional expenditure on reversionary and cash bonuses. Under the industrial branch 2593 policies have been issued between 13th March last and 30tb. The total amount of new business daring the year was £760,337, the largest since the estab lishment of the office. ; The following returns are compiled from the replies to a series of questions formulated by the late.Dr Skae, and addressed by him to the managing authorities of all the hospitals in Few Zealand.: All the hospitals have made returns save Wan* ganui, and the following is a summary of the receipts and expenditure on acoount I of hospitals for the year ending 31st December, 1881:—-Receipts: By subscriptions and donations, £8,137"; from patients, £3,566; contributed by Government, £31,536; contributed by Borough Councils, £3,183; contributed by County Councils, £5,498; rents from endowment^, £1,365; revenue from other sources, £3,147; total £56,703. Expenditure : Provisions, exclusive of wines, etc.,

£14,653; wines, beer, and spirits, £3,210; drugs and dispensary, £3,210; surgical instruments, £1,118; fuel, £2,889; linen* and bedding, £1,150; furniture, £2,435; washing, £691; salaries, £19,693 ; water supply, £422; funerals, £500; repairs, £3,150; printing and advertising, £840; interest, £76; insurance, £288; commission, £1,082; other items, £3,624; total £58,064. i » Grey leaves to-night for Auckland, by Arawata.
