ALBURNIA.
At the battery the crushing continues to look first class. The mine was visited to-diy. In the western face of the lode at 70 feet level, the reef was found tc be somewhat smaller than at the time of la«t visit, but still showing gold. The manager stated that there is still 35 or 40 feet to drive till the Old Wliau boundary is reached. The drive on the branch leader at this end is progressing. There is a large body of stone with good colors of gold. The manager talks of sinking a winze on the reef from the western drive, to connect the 160 feet drive with. (hafc work has just sufficiently advanced. The development of the reef in the slopes i* progressing rapidly, and a .large quantity of quartz is being beaten out-, The "hot of gold Can be traced for 100 feet along the lode, sometimes showing out in large rich patches the size of a man's hand. In the histhest portion of tbe stope fully 15 feet of crushing dirfc is broken, even the mullocky portions of the lode being sent to the mill. The spaces between the solid ribs of quartz are interlaced with auriferous stringers, and consequently crushes very well. About the centre of the lode is a rib of hard whitish , crystallised quartz, which, nojtwiihjtandihgit.sjsoiae<... what unprepossessing appearance, yields good specimens. In the solid quartz in places there are large parcels of bright yellow copper interspersed with daubs of gold. Some fine specimens of this were shown me in the office, the same having been broken out last night. 160-fct level—-The drive west is being pushed ah'ad with vigor. The white hungry quartz has gone out, and the appearance of the country and the lode it precisely the same as met with in the level above. The chances are strongly in' favor of good cold being obtained here. In the office there is a good half ton of specimens and picked •tone. In reviewing the prospects of the mine generally, the thought at once occurs to the observer that the claim it really yet in its infancy, and that the Alburnia will be a gold producer fora generation. I believe there ara several good dividends sticking oat from the workings above the 70 feet level, without reckoning on the blocks below.
