( East night. At a meeting of the exhibitors to the Sydney Exhibition to«day it was resolved

to send Mr Geo. Grant to Sydney as a special agent in connection with the exhibits, subject to the necessary funds being raised. De Lutour addressed a crowded meeting at Batbans last night, and received a unanimous vote of confidence. The writ for election for Port Chalmers is fixed—Augast 23rd for nomination, and September sth for polling. A requisition is being signed asking H. S. Fish to come out for the city. Orbell has definitely declined to stand for Waikouati.

The Dunedin Footballers leave for Christcbureh to-morrow. In backs they are. unusually strong, including such players as Murray, Hose, A. Cargill, and McLean. Forward, however, they will probably be overweighted. It is reported on good authority that Conyers, Commissioner of Railways, is likely to return to Dunedin to make it his head-quarters. Three more informations of embezzlements have been laid against Thos. C. Reid.
