Snelson held a most enthusiastic meeting last night. He stated distinctly he would vote with the Ministry as long as it carried out the Liberal programme enunciated in the Governor's speech. Aiex. McDonald, a Maori chief, rpse to protest against any candidate getting support who would" for one moment give assistance to .the present Ministry; He made a telling speech but at the conclusion Duncan stated that MabDonald had asked him to support him as a Grey candidate, and showed hima letter written to Sheehan asking that the Government should make him their nominee. Dungan refused to give him the slightest countenance and renounced fhe man who, after intriguing to get" into the House under the wing of the Liberal party, was carried before the electors and tried to hoodwink them by affecting pains of horror of the party whose support he craved. The denunciation was hailed with uproarious applause lasting several minutes. McDonald, Wavering in his seat, was perfectly paralysed. : . _ , A vote of confidence was carried and a strong committee volunteered., , r
