OAMARU.
Last night. The nominations for Waitaki is fixed for the 30th August, and the poll for the sth September. G. Jones proprietor of Oamaru Mail, has been asked to contest the election, but has declined on the ground that he has no wish to interfere with the return of the late member. Mr Steward is actively canvassing, and has started on a tour through the district to organise committees and address the electors. Mr Murcott of Hampden? is spoken of as a candidate in the country interests, but it is not decisively known whether he will consent to stand..
