Saturday night.
A seven roomed house and store occupied by Mr Steer, was totally destroyed by fire this morning at. Waltham. The alarm was given by the servant and Steer had barely time to get his family out when the house was enveloped in flames, nothing being saved. The house was insured in the London and Lancashire Offices for £ICO, and the furniture and stock in the Colonial Office for £400. The loss over the insurance is £300. Arrived at Lyttelton: Kotorua from Sydney via Auckland and the East, Hawea from Port Chalmers. Sailed: Barque Bialto for London with fourteen thousand seven hundred and sixty.five sacks of wheat. Passengers : Lester and Wood; St. Kilda for Wanganui, Hotorua for Port Chalmers, and Hawea for Auckland, taking the outward English mail via San Francisco. Judges Johnson and Williams will sit together in banco on Tuesday next to hear the argument in the case of Court v. Studholme. It was rumored to-day that the Liberal Association have another candidate to bring forward for Christchurcb, but the name has not so far transpired. Me^rs Richardson and Stevens" Committees are working hard to secure the return of their men. < i
