Sydney Exhibition.

tOCAL COMMITTEE.

The first meeting of the local committee of the Sydney Exhibition was held at the Borough Council Chambers this morning, there being present A. Brodie (County Chairman), His Worship the Mayor, A. Porter, and F. C. Dean.

Mr McCullough proposed that Mr Brodie take the chair; seconded by Mr Price and carried.

Mr Brodie stated the business of the meeting, and proposed that His Worship the Mayor be elected Chairman of the joint committee. Mr Porter seconded the motion, and spoke in favor of it. His Worship the Mayor objected, stating he would much prefer Mr Brodie, who was an energetic public man, should undertake the duties of Chairman.

It was, however, decided that the Mayor be appointed Chairman. Upon the motion of Mr Brodie, Mr F. U. Dean was requested to act as secretary to the committee. This duty Mr Dean agreed to undertake. The Mayor moved that Col. Fraser be elected a member of the Committee, and felt sure that that gentleman would take an interest in the' matter, and would materially assist in furthering the objects of the Committee.. . , i

It was unanimously carried that Col. Fraser be a member of the Committee.

Mr John Brown was also elected a member of the Committee.

The Chairman pointed oat that probably subscriptions would be required to assist persons in preparing exhibits, and stated that three subscriptions of fire pounds each had been promised. It was resolved that the Chairman telegraph to the Commission in Wellington the names of the Committee, with a request that a sum of money be placed to their credit to enable them to carry out their, duties.

The Mayor mentioned that Mr Plant, of Mary street, intended, if possible, preparing some articles in pottery for exhibition, but would probably require some little assistance to enable him to perfect his exhibits. • : >

It was resolved to wait until a reply Lad been obtained, from the Central Board of Commissioners, before deciding to expend any funds.

A vote of thanks to the Mayor con' eluded the business.
