CURE.

The rapidity with which the water is rising in the shaft and the uncertainty pervading mining operations in that vicinity through the stoppage of tho pump, has induced the directors to sua* perid the only work which had been carried on by the company for some time back, viz., the winze from No. 2 level on 'Gilmour's leader. The winze wai being put down^ for the purpose of connecting with the No. 3 level, but from the present' rapid increase of the water, before the connection could be made, in all probability, the No. 3 level would be swamped. Gold was left in the bottom of the winte. Should the pump be re-started payable operations on Gilmour's lode could be carried on from No. 3 level.
