KURANUI HILL.
The battery has not been working thia last two or three days, the majority of the tributers having completed their monthly crushings, while the out put of the company's workings is hardly sufficient to keep the whole 40 stamps going. A stoppage has consequently been made to permit of stuff accumulating, and there is already a good quantity of quartz on the quartz floor. The mine was visited this morning. In the lower level, since last visit, a great deal of work has been done. The winze from the intermediate level is completed, and hoppers, etc., fixed, so that all the stuff is now sent through by the bottom level, thus doing away with the expense of cartage down the rop.d. In the drive a day or two ago the leader looked poor, and the tests at the battery were unsatisfactory, but today a great improvement was noticeable. The new winze is down about 12 feet, and there is a good body of quartz showing in (he sides though at the bottom it appears to be getting somewhat smaller. Over the drive the second stope is being carried along and everything is in first-rate working order, and the manager will soon be able to send a large quantity of quartz from this stope alone. Tne quartz in the bottom, level is blue while that from the upper levels has a burnt brown appearance. In the upper levels work is proceeding as usual without anything startling to report. Crushing will be resumed in a few days.
